Presidents News

Our Club was well represented in the recent Interclub competition with a Premier team and a Sixes team in each of the Men’s and Women’s events. We hosted Interclub play for two consecutive weekends plus a third Saturday for the Dick Bree Memorial Triples (men only) on 14th Nov. Thank you to Lynn Young and Norma Duffy for willingly providing cups of tea etc to the players. And it was good to see Una Selwood walking again and active as a Tournament Director. Our thanks are also due to our Umpires such as Roger O’Dowd and the markers, who gave their time to ensure these events went well. Just recently I solved a mystery – “who paints the numbers on the greens and yellow indicators”. Answer: Ray Prewett. So on behalf of us all Ray, thank you for your time and effort. The numbers look great! When Joan & Ray Evans (our Founding Father’s widow and son) attended our Silver Jubilee Social Night, they offered to donate a new Club Flag to commemorate the occasion. We are still in the process of following this up but are very grateful for their generous gesture. We are also grateful to Beth Hayter’s husband, Fred, for his provision of a new lawnmower in exchange for our old one at a very good price. Likewise, one of our sponsors, Culmen Aluminium, provided our new Signboard where events etc can be displayed, at a heavily discounted price. Our Club is indebted to these folk for their generosity. In conclusion, I ask each of you to support our Club in any way you can - and to support the new Executive in particular. Keep things in perspective – this is not a tsunami or fatality – but a “fork in the road” and we, as a Club, have to make a choice about which way we go. Good bowling – Claire Mitchell, President
